Beat the clock

This game challenges students to remember vocabulary, but also to internalize form (in this case: ‘It’s a …’). The teacher only facilitates and the students can take on different roles.

Please notice the 3-second rule, which is there to motivate the student to do it alone, but with peer support in case he/she gets stuck.

The game is called ‘Beat the clock’, not ‘Beat your classmate’, so avoid students comparing too much (“Anything under 1 minute is great!”). You could do a second round where the aim is to to beat your own record (which will be harder for the fast ones).

Tip: It’s better to start with a stronger students and/or let the first student go one more time at the end.

Higher levels: use more difficult grammar forms for them to repeat (e.g. cards with action verbs: I like swimming, I like cooking, I like dancing)
