Clear the board

This is about asking questions and getting to know each other a bit better. It can easily be adjusted to the level of the students.

I often play it at the end of the lesson if I have a few minutes left. However, I also use it to introduce myself to a new class at the start of the very first lesson.

Older students might need a little motivation to get started, so I add ‘All rise’ (see also Tips of the Week). I ask all students to stand up and the ones that ask a correct question get to sit down. That usually gets them going.

Be strict and only remove the info once you get a grammatically correct question. I always put in a few numbers to give them some flexibility. I also add ‘yes’ and ‘no’ as students often ask a closed question when seeing information (e.g. ‘Are you from Holland?’ instead of ‘Where are you from?’).

Here I ask at the end who wants to go next. However, usually I assign it to the next volunteer as homework. I have not been short of volunteers yet :).
