Make a puzzle

Great activity for when you have different levels of English in the classroom. You can simply adjust the questions to the level of the student in front of you.

Kids also have options. They can run back for the next puzzle piece or stay at the puzzle and solve it. My experience is that the shy students like the short 1-on-1 attention and come back most often.

Any puzzle with 25 to 40 pieces will do.

Tip 1:

You can also have them ask you questions, but count with a slightly slower game then.

Tip 2:

Another option is that 2 strong students ask the questions (play ‘Teacher’) and as a teacher you only monitor or help when necessary. In this case, you can have 2 puzzles and fewer students will be waiting in line.

I did this activity on the carpet in a circle to review the vocabulary and phrases we already know. I used it as a warm-up after the holiday. (For example: How many fingers do you have? What day is it today? Where is your bag? How old are you? Where are you from? For each correct answer, the student received a piece of the puzzle. Then we described the picture. I will try this activity with running next lesson.

Good idea to use it as a circle activity as a calmer start of the lesson. And the next time you will use it as a running activity, it will feel new to them.
