This is a neat little game that allows the students to internalize new vocabulary, practice asking ‘where’ and internalize the article ‘the’, which is always tricky for Slovaks. It even allows for review of body parts as you can see in the video.
It is a bit easier than the game ‘What’s missing?’, because they only need to recognize, not remember, the words. Weaker students can learn from stronger students (they can just watch first and then react) and everybody gets to play at the same time.
To play with the entire classroom, you could place the flash cards all around the classroom and then ask the question.
In the video, Marek says he already played this game in kindergarten when he was 4. So, he already understood everything I said in English at the age of 4, although he didn’t know half of the words I was using.
How is that possible?
- by doing what you are saying
- by saying in English what they are thinking or expressing in Slovak
- by naming what they are doing.
They might not get it immediately, but they will figure it out soon enough. Just repeat and you will see.
